What are tags in Text United?
All documents contain both some textual data and formatting. In Text United, during the processing of the files, formatting information is separated from the actual text, and the text is segmented (split into individual sentences).
Tags, on the other hand, contain information about the formatting and structure of your document.
To make sure that you can obtain your translation in the same format as the source document, Text United will hide the formatting and structure information within tags. This enables the system to re-built your translated document in its initial format but with the content translated.
Important: Text United is removing as many tags as possible from the text for translation, leaving only those which are necessary for translators to be aware of (for instance, if the order of the sentence should be changed in the target language)
Fewer tags make translation easier for translators and help them avoid linguistic mistakes.
Text United, the online translation editor, displays tags with yellow icons, green and numbers.
The Text United application translation editor displays tags with green icons and numbers.

Therefore, keeping the tags in the right place when translating segments is essential so the tag's information will be maintained.
How to place tags in the translation editor?
TextUnited translation editors display tags with yellow icons with numbers.
To place tags in the translation editor, use the following functions:
- Insert tag (ctrl+space), place the cursor where you want to insert the tag and use this option to place your tags.
-
Copy Source to Target when editing a segment. This will copy all the text from the source segment into the currently open target segment, including all tags.
Note: you cannot drag & drop the tags in the application. Drag & drop is available only in the Online editor.
Because inline tags can be freely manipulated, translators can accidentally distort the formatting and structure of a file. Therefore Text United performs several checks that produce warnings that will prevent translators from saving a segment if the tags' order is incorrect or any tag is missing.
If the tag order is correct, but the spaces around the tags differ from the source segment, you can save the segment but still get a warning message "Different tag spaces".
Important - missing tags error
Make sure to correct the segments that contain the messages.
- Missing tags - Indicates that one or more tags are not inserted. Insert all the tags shown in the source segment and click on Save this segment.
- Possible incorrect tag order - Make sure the tags are placed in the same order as shown in the source segment. Once you correct the order, click on Save this segment.
You can easily spot the tag-related warning messages as they have a red warning icon next to them. You can also use the "With warnings" filter option to filter out all segments containing warning messages. It will only be possible to generate a translated file if all segments with red warnings are corrected.
